Education

The Gateway Region is kicking off our summer Beginner Coaches Clinics Series and would encourage anyone who is interested to take advantage of these clinics.

Level I – The “HOW to Teach” section presents various ideas and philosophies on coaching techniques. The topics covered include Coaching Goals, Coach-Student Communication, Practice Ideas, Practice Structure, Skill Presentation, Drill Ideas and Movement and Positioning Concepts.
The “WHAT to Teach” section describes the 6 basic skills of Serving, Forearm Passing, Overhead Passing (Setting), Hitting (Attacking), Digging and Blocking. In addition, several basic offense and defense court positions are presented. Emphasis is placed on the proper technique and includes key words and suggested drills that will reinforce each skill.

Level II – This clinic will go “beyond the basics” on those 6 volleyball skills and will also begin to introduce team concepts such as serve reception formations, basic offensive and defensive strategies. This knowledge is the foundation that will enable a new coach to successfully and confidently teach the sport of volleyball.

The clinics listed below reflect what is currently scheduled, but keep an eye on this site as new clinics will be added rather often over the next few weeks.

The public clinics cost $25 and are open to all coaches. If you would like to host a private clinic just for your school’s/parish’s coaches please contact Shannon Loso, loso@gatewayvb.org, to arrange this clinic.
