About Us
USA Volleyball is the national governing body for the sport of volleyball and the parent organization to the men's and women's national teams. USAV's involvement ranges from the highest level of international competition through the national teams to grass roots competition through USAV Regions and member organizations.
There are currently 40 regions throughout the United States. Each region is an independent, non-profit organization who's purpose is the promotion of volleyball competition on a local level as well as a national level. The local region of USA Volleyball, Gateway, was established in 1994.
The Gateway Region encompasses the eastern part of Missouri and the southern part of Illinois. Our membership comes from cities as far away as Quincy and Springfield in Illinois to Rolla and West Plains in Missouri. Our membership is growing every year and presently we have approximately over 7000 members. Members include adult players, youth players, coaches, referees, scorekeepers and parents.
Youth Volleyball Opportunities
Our youth program, more commonly referred to as Junior Olympic Volleyball, is the largest sector of our Region with over 5200 boys and girls ranging in ages 10 through 18. Gateway has a strong Junior program with opportunities for all skill levels through a variety of Junior clubs and teams. Juniors are selected for clubs/teams following tryouts which begin in the early fall. Competition consists of local tournament play to larger national events. New clubs form yearly. A club may be as small as one team or may have unlimited numbers. Cost to play varies with the club/team and generally are based on the amount of travel planned. Fundraising events are often used to minimize the costs.
Adult Membership
The Gateway Region has many opportunities for adult players at all ages and skill levels. Adult members form teams and/or clubs and compete both locally and out of Region. USA Volleyball has set four skill level divisions for men and women and plenty of tournaments are run for all levels of teams each year.
Volleyball opportunities are open to the more mature players as well through our seniors and masters programs, which include players in their thirties, forties and even fifties. These programs are still being developed, so if you are interested please contact the Region office.
Outdoor Opportunities
Outdoor volleyball, both sand and grass, is becoming more and more popular every year in our region. A special outdoor membership is available at a reduced rate for the summer months. Many events will allow you to register for that event only.
Membership Benefits
As a member of USA Volleyball you will receive many benefits including liability and sport accident insurance, a subscription to the quarterly national magazine "Volleyball USA" as well as our Regional publication, "the Centerline", which is published two times per year. Our website is updated frequently to keep you current on all local volleyball events and tournaments. You will also receive an official USAV rule book and have access to referee and scorekeeper clinics. As a member you are eligible to participate in USAV sanctioned tournaments and national championships.
