Gateway Region Update 3-25-2020

At this moment, the region is eyeing May 30-31 as a reschedule weekend to conduct all age groups for Regionals - boys MS, girls.  We are attempting to procure facilities in both Cape and STL.

At this moment the region is preparing a plan B for the Girls Bid Event - in the event we are forced to cancel by USAV or Higher Authority mandate, we are looking at June 6-7 tentatively.  We are looking into facility availability in both Cape and STL.

Gateway Region Update 3-23-2020

We are moving closer to potential reschedule dates for our postponed events, and working around the uncertainty of qualifiers, facilities and future family needs.  Please stay tuned as we will continue updates and announcements next week.

USAV has extended their qualification season through June 14, to accommodate region bid events and national qualifiers that could be or were postponed and are working to reschedule.   At this time, our Girls Bid Event is still scheduled for the first weekend of May.  We have a plan B to move the event the last weekend of May or first weekend of June if necessary.

We're exploring alternative dates to reschedule our postponed Regional Championships to the last weekend of May or first weekend of June.  These reschedules are still very tentative.  We will make an announcement as the picture sharpens.

The Beach Bash originally scheduled for Mother's Day Weekend may have to be cancelled.  The Gateway Beach Open National Qualifier is still scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend.  Gateway Beach Regional Championships is still scheduled for the first weekend in June.

IMPORTANT Message from USAV

March 19, 2020 Update - 6 p.m. Mountain

We are continuing to monitor the status of COVID-19 coronavirus. In the interest of welfare and safety of our membership.

USA Volleyball is announcing the elimination of sanctions for all USA Volleyball activities (including but not limited to events, practices, team activities, individual training sessions or anything covered by USA Volleyball insurance) through April 15, 2020. USA Volleyball is monitoring the situation daily and will continue to provide updates on a regular basis.

USA Volleyball has been asked by local clubs whether such ban applies to club activities covered under the club’s own (non-USA Volleyball) insurance. In these situations, USA Volleyball strongly encourages all member clubs and coaches to adhere to USA Volleyball’s policies. However, should a club decide to voluntarily disregard those policies and assume all risks associated therewith, we recommend that the club adhere to CDC; local, state and federal guidelines and recommendations when deciding whether or not to host practices or individual training sessions. If a club does host practice or individual training sessions, those activities would be considered a non-sanctioned activity by USA Volleyball and thus NOT covered by USA Volleyball insurance.

The health and welfare of our membership, volleyball families and fellow citizens is our primary concern in all decisions we are making during these uncharted times.

As a reminder USA Volleyball has a page on its website solely devoted to COVID-19 which is updated with the latest information at https://www.teamusa.org/usa-volleyball/features/usa-volleyball-response-on-coronavirus.

This means that all meetings, practices and tournaments will NOT have insurance coverage through those dates.  Clubs that continue VB activities will be assuming ALL risks.  Please notify your coaches, players, and families immediately.

From Gateway Region

Sent to all Club and Tournament Directors March 17, 2020

Dear Club and Tournament Directors,

In light of recent events, the Gateway Region Volleyball Association has expanded its precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its athletes, spectators, officials and staff.  Please forward this message to your member families.

We do not want to place our membership and their families at risk during this rapidly-evolving coronavirus emergency. It is unlikely that two weeks will be an adequate pause, so please watch your email for updates as they become available. This is uncharted waters for our volleyball community and we all want to do the right thing. Some of these events may be rescheduled, while others may not be.

We are in this together and what affects one of us affects all of us. Our clubs are the lifeblood of our membership and are the reason we continue to be a strong volleyball community.

We hope everyone maintains a positive attitude as we navigate through these uncharted times as a community. We hope everyone continues to follow the guidelines set forth by our health experts and governing bodies. Once it is safe and responsible to restart volleyball activities, we will do so expeditiously. Our prayers are with you and your families as we move toward the end of this challenge and a return to each of our normal lives.
