Boys Tryouts

Gateway Region 2021-22 season Tryout Dates

Boys 8-18's have traditionally been held the last weekend of September.  After discussion at the May Board Meeting, the tryout weekend has moved to the weekend following Labor Day.  For the 2021-2022 Season, Boys Tryouts for the Gateway Region may begin after 5pm Friday September 10, 2021.

Please note there will be no early offer process for the 21-22 registration season.

Tryouts may start at 5pm on Friday.  Commitment time is 7pm on Sunday of the Initial tryout weekend.  Tryouts held after the initial tryout weekend may ask for a commitment at the time of the tryout.

Please form your teams within appropriate age and grade levels.  Age waivers will be allowed for players too old for their grade to play with their peers.  Realize age-waivered teams may not participate in any national qualifying divisions at National Bid/Qualifier events (exception U12, U13, U14).  Be prepared to produce documentation (birth certificate and most recent school report card) to register a waivered player on a team roster.

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT TRYOUTS

Please be aware that once you have committed to play for a team, you are committed to that team for the season and you may not transfer to another team.

Boys tryout information

Any tryouts taking place prior to the start dates above are not sanctioned by the Gateway Region of USA Volleyball and are not for USAV teams.

2021-2022 Tryouts

The tryout listing below is updated periodically, as tryout sanctions are turned into Region Staff.  Tryout edits and changes may only be made once - changes are noted in red.  Tryout Sanction Forms should be emailed to Linus at shyu@gatewayvb.org

As of June 1, 2021, USAV is still in the 2020-2021 season.  USAV will officially release the Age Definition for the 2021-2022 season after this current season has completed.  Gateway Region does not anticipate that the age definitions will change - so have extrapolated the age definition and chart for the 2021-2022 season for those planning ahead.

Safesport Certification

Dear Staff and Membership

As we enter the 2021/22  season we wanted to provide some reminders regarding SafeSport training.    The SafeSport training requirement became an annual training requirement beginning in 2018/2019 season.  SafeSport Core  being the first then refreshers to follow each additional year.    In the new SportsEngine Member Management System the course is easily accessible by clicking on the link on the eligibility requirements you receive when an applicable membership with the requirement is purchased.    It can also be accessed by logging into your SportsEngine account at sportsengine.com, going to Household on the left side menu, then your profile and view details on your membership.

Who is required to take the Core Center for SafeSport Training?

  • Any new member who falls into the category of the required training (Club Director, Coach, Tourney Directors, Referee's, Organization Admins, team managers or chaperones).
  • Any member who took the USOC previous version of the SafeSport training on the Team USA Prep site
  • Any junior member turning 18 during the season.    A 2021 Gateway Junior Players 18's membership should be purchased and that will have the SafeSport eligibility requirement.   It will have also have the parental consent for taking the course if they are not  when yet 18 taking.   Completing at beginning of season eliminates the having to be in a rush and tracking when they turn 18 and getting it completed before they become ineligible during the season.

Who is required to take the Refresher Courses :

  • Any member who has taken the Core Center for SafeSport training and that has expired.  Each year there will be a Refresher so  if previous year completed Refresher 1 the next year would be Refresher 2 and so on.
