A message from Chris Clauss regarding upcoming club tryouts...

Tryout season will be beginning shortly.  Each year I am ask who the best clubs are and where should I take my player to tryout.  I cannot suggest particular clubs, but I will share the advice I give when I am asked this question.

  • Do your homework.Talk to the Club contact person and ask questions such as where will practices be held? How much money will it cost? Are players moved up or down within the age group during the season?Talk with parents and players who have played on the club/team you are interested in and ask about the coaching and the way the club is operated.
  • Read A Parent’s Guide to Choosing a Volleyball Club on our web site.
  • Know the rules of the Gateway Region by reading the Junior Handbook located on our web site gatewayvb.org under publications.
  • Please remember that once you become a member of a club/team you cannot transfer to another club/team.
  • Come to all tryouts ready to work hard and hustle.
  • Give it your best and have Fun.

The volleyball season is long, it will seem even longer if you don’t find a club/team that works for your player and family’s lifestyle and preferences.

In recent seasons we have been experiencing an increase in parents and coaches misbehaving.  This season we will be monitoring the situation more closely by adopting A Tournament Code of Conduct.  Be familiar with the rules of behavior.  When coming to a tournament you are agreeing to abide by this Code of Conduct.
