The Sitting Volleyball department would like to share that the Sitting Division at the Open Championships will be returning this year after a brief hiatus due to COVID. Several of the Regions had either entered or discussed forming teams for the division in previous years, and we wanted to invite you to join us in the excitement we have for the division’s return.
As a quick recap, the Sitting Division is a two day competition during the second half of the tournament weekend. There is NO requirement for athletes to have a physical disability to play in the division as we want to challenge the best six volleyball players you can get to play. Olympians Kevin Barnett and Heather Bown have previously played in the Sitting division, and we want to encourage all to consider playing.
If you have a team competing in the first half of the tournament, encourage them to stay two extra days and play in the Sitting Division. The division’s entry fee is a reduced price of only $250. And if they would like to boost up their roster, we have several Paralympians and Sitting National Team Development Program athletes that will be in attendance and looking to join others to complete rosters. Should anyone like assistance connecting with our athletes or if you have any questions, you can contact us at sitting.volleyball@usav.org.
